Alcohol and Pregnancy

Alcohol and pregnancy is nothing to be fooled around with. Although it is said to be common knowledge not to drink while pregnant women still do it anyway. For those woman who do dare to drink there can be consequences for her child.

Drinking alcohol while pregnant could cause potential health issue for the woman’s child. In one study done by a group predicted that women who drank a lot of alcohol will pregnant can cause the baby to have a low birth weight. They separated their women into three groups, heavy (100g a week), moderate (50-100g a week) and light (50g a week).  The results of the study showed the women who consumed 100g of alcohol a week had a higher level for the risk of a low birth weight baby. Along with the low birth weight, a longitude study was done and the same babies around the age of 8 months were significantly delayed growth wise as well as mentally.

The studies have been done more than once and have the same results throughout however, these studies do not consider the other physical conditions of the women besides the amount of alcohol they drink.   In the end drinking while pregnant is not the smartest thing to do for the mother or the baby.

  1. I love that you did your article on this! It is a shame that women actually do not know the risk that they are putting their baby in to. I wish women would be more educated on the effects of alcohol and pregnancy. Unfortunately, low birth weight is not the only side effect to drinking while pregnant. The babies can be born with defects and syndromes.
